I never got the verification code for whats app, what should i do?

I live in Taiwan and o recently downloaded the app, whats app, on my iPhone. When it asked for my number i just put down 0932555023 which is how phone numbers are here. But it kept saying i was having problem geting it. So i tried sending a message to them but i never got the code. I cant call them to get the code either cuz i live in Taiwan. What am i suppose to do?
